For those of you who have longed to hear my cool, crisp nasally voice, I’ll present to you the Rob and Logic Project, a podcast hosted over at Hammer Fisted. The link will go up here later today as well, but it should be there now.
I think it’s something we’ll do regularly, and I had a lot of fun putting it together and hosting it with Logic. It’s rough, but I think there’s a lot of potential there. It’s a “Project” in more ways than one in that case; it’s something that needs work, and that we’ll always be putting effort in to make better.
I appreciate all feedback and thoughts and comments and criticisms (constructive and “you suck” variety). I don’t think we’re at the level of Punte & Brandon at KSK, but we’re having fun doing it. And we’ll likely steal all their good stuff and improve on it. (That goes for all you other podcasts out there too).
I love the creative process. The free flow of ideas and ideas forming thoughts and thoughts brining out opinions and programs that lead to more flow of ideas. It’s a brilliant feeling being successful and encouraging to be allowed to be unsuccessful with freedom to learn from mistakes that were made. I love it. I’m terrible at the editing process, and sometimes I’m slow to realize the errors that lead to failure and/or unsuccessful ends. But that’s ok so long as you’re always learning, right? I’d hope so.
And yet, this time every year, I sit down right away to work over an NCAA bracket. Sometimes I compete for money, most often times it’s just for bragging rights. And always, I’m unsuccessful. It’s frustrating, it really is; especially when I try to go more with head over heart. I’ve done research versus gut, I’ve watched ungodly amounts of hoops, listened to Vitale & Bilas & Digger & Jimmy V & Any other talking head ESPN would put out there in the days and still, I was a miserable failure. This year, of course, should be no different. Continue Reading »
The Badgers got the #4 seed in the East Regional, drawing #13 seed Wofford in the first round. The other game in their pod is #5 Temple and #12 Cornell. Cornell is the media darling right now as being under seeded, and a huge pick for the 12 over 5 upset. The top half of the East Regional is headlined by #1 Kentucky, which should slip easily into the Sweet 16. The bottom half of the bracket includes #2 seed West Virginia and the other home state team Marquette, a #6 seed.
The shocking thing for the Badgers is that they were seeded ahead of Michigan State, and seeded the same as Purdue (which was downgraded with the loss of Robbie Hummel). Wofford is a fair draw for them as a #13 seed; Wofford is a good defensive team, and have a go to man in 6’6” forward Noah Dahlman. Dahlman is the leading scorer and second leading rebounder for Wofford. Wofford is one of the best teams in the NCAA in defensive efficiency, and look to go 10 deep to keep the pressure on.
Dahlman is the only real scoring threat for the Terriers, averaging 16.8 ppg; forward Jamar Diggs is second averaging 9.8 ppg. Dahlman will draw a defensive combination of Jon Leuer, Tim Jarmusz and Ryan Evans; Diggs will likely be Jordan Taylor’s defensive assignment, then Trevon Hughes.
Overall, this is a good first round draw for the Badgers. The Terriers shouldn’t be that much of a threat, lacking size on defense, Leuer and Keaton Nankivil should be able to do some damage down low, which opens the outside up for Hughes, Taylor and Jason Bohannon. This will NOT be a high scoring game, as both teams play tough defensively, and value points per possession. But the Badgers have enough various weapons, even if the outside shot isn’t falling, to be able to put Wofford away easily.
The MOST disappointing thing is that the Badgers didn’t get a favorable pod by playing in Milwaukee. Instead, Ohio State got a Milwaukee pod, while Pittsburgh will got the other half of the Milwaukee pod, also as a #3 seed. Disappointing, but Jacksonville is not the worst location for the Badgers, as only Duke is likely to outdraw them fan wise.
Honestly, I love the Olympics. I really do, and I find most Canadians to be charming people. However, the Closing Ceremony for the 2010 games have just left me FLOORED. I was laughing so hard I was crying. Actual tears. It was fantastic. I think I scared the neighbors.
Here’s a few of the good pictures. Continue Reading »
So, I had made a statement to my boss that I could have predicted this year’s nominees before the nominations came out.
And that day is tomorrow. I had about 2/3 of the list done a few weeks ago, then came back and finished it last night. My Best Actor, Director and Supporting Actor list never changed. My Best Actress and Supporting Actress didn’t change much. I added The Blind Side to Best Picture as my 10th pick on a hunch.
I think I’ll hit 80% across the board, but admit I’m taking a bit of a gamble on Zoe Saldana. I think she gets nominated in one of the categories, but I’m not 100% convinced it’ll be in best actress.

The Case For the Wisconsin Badgers
Record: (16-5, 6-3 in the Big Ten)
Key Wins: at home wins against Duke and Purdue. Neutral court wins against Arizona and Maryland (Maui Invitational). Road win against Northwestern.
Bad Losses: @UW-Green Bay, in OT.
Good Losses: @Michigan State, @Ohio State, @Purdue.
What does Joe Lunardi say? Down to a 5 seed, still in Spokane. However, Gonzaga also was moved down, and out of the Spokane pod. The down side is that the Badgers drew Connecticut as a 12 seed, which is a team that the Badgers don’t match up well against.
What happened this week: The Badgers lost a nail biter to Purdue this week, when Trevon Hughes shot(s) fell short at the end. It was a well played game in the first half, but the second half was just horribly officiated (for both sides).
Badger Player of the Week: Keaton Nankovil scored 25 points, and shot 7-8 from three point land. He was the Badgers offense for most of the game, and cued a 15 point swing that had them down 7 to up 8. That he didn’t get a look on the final possession was something that was a bit shocking, given how well he was playing.
The Week Ahead: 2/2 Michigan State & 2/6 @Michigan. The Badgers lost in East Lansing 54-47 on January 6th. Hughes only shot 3-13 from the field in that game, and Jon Leuer was the leading scorer for the Badgers with 21 points. The Badgers beat the Wolverines in Madison 54-48, on January 20th, thanks to a 36 point 2nd half, sparked by Rob Wilson’s 13 points off the bench.
Miscellaneous: Leuer’s wrist is improving, but he is not expected to play against Michigan State, nor Michigan… The date for the home finale against Iowa has been set for Wednesday, March 3rd, with a 7:30pm CST tip off. The game will be carried on the Big Ten Network… Tuesday’s game against MSU will be on ESPN.
Yesterday, somebody found this website using the search “Jarrett Bush Contract”. I could only come up with the following reasons why somebody would even put those three words into a search engine.
1. The Searcher was hoping that Jarrett Bush was not under contract for next year, and would hopefully be someone else’s problem next season
2. The Searcher couldn’t believe that a player got paid actual cash money to let wide receivers blow right past him. Sadly, this is true.
3. The Searcher was hoping that somebody had put out a contract on Jarrett Bush’s life, hoping to end the misery of The Jarrett Bush Era.
Of all the above options, clearly #3 is the most likely case.
Alas, I don’t have the finances nor the resources to put such a thing out there. Also, it’s likely very, very illegal. However, dear Searcher, I’m sure you looked around the website and found yourself in love with it, and have decided to check back again and again, and when you read this, just go ahead and click on the email link to contact me. If you’re willing to make the arrangements, I’ve got some birthday money that can be put to a good cause. And I don’t mean helping Haitians. I mean, you know… #3 above.
